Birds Eye View – Liberty State Park

Seagull soars over the Hudson on a cold Friday afternoon – Leap Day 2/29/08
We need to get back to first principles of the Republic (not an empire): no foreign entanglements or Kings wanted here:
“A popular government, without popular information or the means of acquiring it, is but a prologue to a farce or a tragedy; or perhaps both. Knowledge will forever govern ignorance: And a people who means to be their own government, must arm themselves with the power knowledge gives.” James Madison
The Birds and Sunsets will outlive the Empire.

Gee whiz – that seagull can’t see any towers at the tip of Manhattan – what’s up with that?
Gee whiz – we’re in a quagmire of a war in Iraq, built on lies, and expressly to expand the “American way of life”, a rather imperial project – why can’t our friendly seagull report on that?
Oh, and despite the sea gull’s habitat on Ellis Island, xenophobic and racist attacks on the poor and immigrants go on and on and on.
Old Jonathan Livingston sa gull can’t seem to stop that either.
As Vonnegut said – so it goes.
